Bring Your Laptop or Drinking Game to Highline RXR

Not everyone is lucky enough to have an office like a hot startup, equipped with a bar and game room. The next best thing: a place like Highline RXR, a work- and play-friendly spot now open in Crystal City.

The 7,300-square-foot concept comes from Geoffrey Dawson and Peter Bayne, who are also behind similarly active bars Penn SocialBuffalo Billiards, and Rocket Bar. During the day, guests can plug into outlets at either the main or porch bar—glass-enclosed in cool weather, open in warm—and be productive thanks to wi-fi, locally roasted Zeke’s Coffee, and an all-day menu of soups, salads, and sandwiches. A Nana Wall (a folding glass partition) keeps things light amid industrial design elements such as tin and wood wall coverings, and graffiti-like murals from local artist Kelly Towles.

A wall of windows keeps things light in the industrial space.

By happy hour, hard workers might want to explore the list of 31 draft beers, or really blow off steam with one of the 40 whiskeys or cocktails. Playtime can focus on arcade games like Ms. Pac Man, Big Buck Hunter, and Golden Tee, or a selection of board games that includes Cards Against Humanity, Jenga, and Connect 4. There’re also projectors for watching big games, though you won’t find televisions on a constant loop. Entertainment instead comes in the form of karaoke, trivia nights, and other community events.

Sadly there are no ball pits or nap pods—leave that to Google
